Rihanna’s Diet and Weight Loss – how she made a complete transformation

Author: Casey Mcphee

Many celebrities have realized the importance of having a healthy diet and being involved in physical exercises. Having a healthy diet, according to Rihanna is to eliminate carbohydrate from her meal plan. Rihanna is among the celebrities who made a complete transformation. When asked about her weight loss regimen, she was quick to admit on working out and trying to eat healthy.

The type of diet that Rihanna follows is Low-Carbohydrate. It eliminates foods such as bread and pasta. In two separate studies, volunteers who had low-carbohydrate diet reduced more weight than volunteers who had low-fat diet after their 6-month long clinical studies.

Rihanna believes that a low-carbohydrate meal plan is helpful in reducing cravings and losing weight as the quickest rate. It consists of fast and easy low-carbohydrate meals utilizing ordinary foods. People who take delight in healthy low-carbohydrate while losing fats quickly will be compatible with Rihanna’s weight loss diet.

However, prior to the commencement of her meal plan, people are encouraged to know the following points:

1. Reduce sugar content from the diet. Foods and beverages such as soda, sweetened drinks, fruit drinks, cookies, cakes, and candies should be eradicated.

2. To keep the energy level high and to avoid getting hungry, it is recommended that people eat meals and snacks every 4 to 5 hours.

3. Avoid eating processed foods as much as possible.

4. Drink water between meals, preferably two glasses. If flavored waters are chosen, select sugar-free. You can even create your own by adding a lime or orange slice to plain mineral water.

5. Have a daily supplement on vitamins and minerals.

To give an idea on what foods, she eats every day; Rihanna gives a sample menu for one day. For breakfast, she eats egg sandwich with cheese, meat or egg plus orange juice. She also drinks soy protein drink and munches on low-carbohydrates breakfast bar.

At lunchtime, she enjoys having grilled chicken sandwich and garden salad that uses 2 tablespoons of low-fat salad dressing. Her dessert includes frozen and low-calorie lasagna entrée and apple. Rihanna’s Deli sandwich is filled with 4 ounces turkey, roasted beef, or ham. The sandwich itself is whole-grain bread topped with oil and vinegar or mayonnaise. Her vegetables for lunch are lettuce, tomato, and ½-cup three-bean salad.

When dinner comes, 3 ounces of roasted chicken, ½ cup of pasta salad, 1 cup sliced tomatoes graced Rihanna’s dining table. She used balsamic vinegar and drinks 1 cup of skim milk. Another choice is to have a Chinese take-out of 3 ounces chicken breast combined with 1 cup of stir-fry vegetables and ½-cup rice and 1-cup skim milk.

Diet alone is not very effective in weight loss. Exercise must be used in conjunction with a healthy diet. Weight training and cardio workout are the perfect combination to boost the metabolism.

Go The Flat Belly Diet!

Author: Jo Campbell

We all know we have to follow a healthy diet to lose weight...but oh boy, do we hate diet food! Enter the world of the Flat Belly Diet where you can lose up to 15 pounds in 32 days, while eating chocolate, and wait for it....without exercise. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? We decided to investigate.

The Flat Belly Diet, a top selling diet book, was written by Liz Vaccariello, editor in chief of Prevention, along with Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD, nutrition director at Prevention. We all want flat stomachs don't we? The main focus area and title of this book is a marketer's dream, which no doubt helped to push the sales.

When you look carefully at The Flat Belly Diet, it really boils down to nothing more than a calorie controlled Mediterranean style diet made easy. The Mediterranean diet has been proven in a number of scientific studies to promote good health and weight loss. The Flat Belly Diet may still become one the most well known diet of its sort yet, as it provides a relatively easy how-to for the Mediterranean Diet.

Another appealing feature of the diet is the energy it appears to bring with it. Calling a monounsaturated fat a MUFA almost makes it sound like a fashion accessory, rather than a food type in a diet. Add in the fact that dark chocolate counts as a MUFA and you have a thoroughly fashionable and exciting diet!

As far as scientific backing for MUFAs goes, a number of scientific studies to date demonstrated the benefits of including MUFAs into your diet, not only to protect or improve your waistline, but also to improve your general health and mental ability.

On The Flat Belly Diet program you are limited to four 400 calorie meals per day. Again, as far as diets go, this is a pretty good limit to set. Most people will lose weight safely and effectively on 1600 calories per day. Every meal must be accompanied by a MUFA. The MUFA will also help keep you satisfied for longer, and it will most definitely make the food taste less like diet food and more like real food.

You will start off by following an initial 4 day jump-start program designed to reduce bloating and prepare you mentally before you start the Flat Belly Diet. During the jump-start program you will be limited to between 1,200- to 1400-calories, and you will have to drink 2 litres of "sassy water", a blend of water, herbs, spices, citrus and cucumber, every day. After the jump start phase you will feel less lethargic, less bloated and less constipated.

In keeping with the Mediterranean style diet the second phase (duration 28 days) focus on (aside from MUFAs) plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, beans, seeds and lean protein. As mentioned earlier each meal is accompanied by a MUFA belonging to one of 5 groups: nuts, oils and seeds, olives, avocados and dark chocolate. Red meat is allowed on rare occasions, maybe once a month.

Aside from the book, the Flat Belly Diet also offers a dieters web-site that provides tools assistance and support. The online program allows for the customization of members' calorie needs based on age, sex, height, weight and activity level. While the program does not require participants to exercise, it does encourage it in the interest of better weight loss and health results.

In our experience, if you lose 15 pounds in 32 days, a large percentage of this will be water weight. You may find that despite claims of huge losses, you still only lose at a rate of approximately 1-2 pounds per week, the rate generally recommended by health experts anyway. To reiterate the view expressed earlier; this is a calorie-controlled, Mediterranean-style diet plan meaning you will lose weight (all over and not necessarily just around the midsection) safely and effectively.

Still, if this diet allows you to have your chocolate and lose weight - why not just go for it?

No matter which diet or weight management plan you follow, measuring and monitoring your progress is crucial to your success. At OptimalBodyWeight.com you'll find a free tool to help you do just that. It is jam-packed with lots of cool features and all the functionality you will ever need to help you on your diet journey.

The Flat Belly Diet - Does it Work and What in the World is a MUFA?

By Candee Schneider

I'm sure you've seen it...the bright yellow book jacket that proclaims, "The Flat Belly Diet is about Food & Attitude. Period. (Not a Single Crunch Required)" The cover indeed is an attention grabber, but does it work? Is it possible that certain foods can target belly fat?

The authors think it's totally possible to get rid of belly fat..."Belly fat is not your destiny. I am delighted to tell you that you can, and you will, get rid of it."

The Flat Belly Diet was written by Prevention Magazine's vice president and editor-in-chief, Liz Vaccariello and Prevention's nutrition director, Cynthia Sass. Offered as proof, and strategically placed throughout the book, the authors have shined the spotlight on eight weight loss participants that have done a great job shedding belly fat. Their stories are interesting to read and extremely inspirational.

The diet is one of calorie restriction and there are only three simple rules to follow to reach success.

#1 Eat 1600 calories a day...4 meals (400 calories each)

#2 Never go longer than 4 hours without eating

#3 Consume a MUFA with every meal.

What in the world is a MUFA?

MUFA (pronounced "moo fa") stands for monounsaturated fatty acids, or otherwise known as "healthy fat". MUFA's can be found in 5 food categories: healthy oils, olives, avocados, nuts and seeds, and dark chocolate-my favorite!

The book includes a 4-day anti-bloat jumpstart, a four week eating plan (complete with recipes), an optional exercise plan, and loads of nutritional information.

If you want to read all the details about the magic of MUFA's, check out my full Flat Belly Diet Review-you'll be glad you did! This is a fantastic book that will not only help you win your battle with belly fat, but also educate you about many aspects of nutrition, the importance on keeping a food diary, exercise, and stress management.

Rachael Ray Diet - Flat Belly Diet Review

By Rachel Archer

Have you seen the Rachael Ray Diet on her daytime TV show? It's also better known as the flat belly diet and today I plan to review this diet and explain the pros and cons of the diet and whether you can expect to lose 25 pounds in 3 weeks as it suggests. I'll also another weight loss option that has already proven itself if you choose not to try the flat belly diet.

So how does the Flat Belly Diet Work?

The diet is based around a type of beneficial fat known as monounsaturated fat or (MUFA). The idea is that you eat a variety of foods that are high in this fat and as a result you will feel full from this and not eat other foods as a result. As well the ability of your body to burn off this fat more easily than other forms of calories is the major benefit for weight loss you can expect.

So what are the downsides to this diet?

The focus on MUFA as a way to fill you up is misleading as it has been shown that protein is the ideal food for this purpose. If that wasn't enough though to hold up an argument the major problem with this diet is the fact that it will eventually end and through the duration of this very redundant diet you will have slowed your metabolic processes as a result. This is a major problem with most diets and is the reason why people experience a rebound effect after a diet and put weight back on. Most diets have you either avoiding calories as the flat belly diet does, or has you eating a very structured schedule of the same types of foods which is yet another problem with the flat belly diet.

The ideal diet focuses on your metabolism, not on avoiding calories

Lets face it, when you come off of a diet are you going to eat the same as you did on the diet or are you going back to your old habits? Odds are you'll be back to your old habits and the weight will slowly creep back on. Now what if you were to try something different such as calorie shifting. The idea behind calorie shifting is that you are focusing on boosting your metabolism through eating, not avoid calories. This is a much more realistic long term weight loss diet as you are focusing on changing the factor that allowed you to put on the weight to begin with. Best of all with calorie shifting there is no rebound effect, in fact part of the focus of the diet is burning fat continually from its effects for weeks after you decide to stop!.

Truth About Mufa Diet - Is This Mufa Meal Plan and Flat Belly Diet a Scam?

By Faviano Torres

Have you heard of a diet that actually allows you to eat your favorite chocolate chips and dark chocolates topped with macadamia nuts? If you think we are just joking, read about the Truth about Mufa Diet and you will know that we are just informing you of the truth and nothing but the truth. If you think that once you go on a diet, you will never ever taste again your favorite chocolates or peanut butter on a toast, you are definitely mistaken. The Truth about Mufa Diet actually reveals a lot of shocking truths but then, they are the truths certified by various respectable people.

Though it may sound non-sense to you at first, Mufa scientifically stands for monounsaturated fatty acids that we get from foods from plants. Unlike other diets ever made, Mufa Diet is one of the few diets ever featured in the famous Good Morning America show because of its positive effect. On the show, they discussed the truth about mufa diet and how it is divided into five classifications which are chocolates like chocolate chips and dark chocolates; avocadoes; oil such as canola oil, olive oil and sunflower oil; nuts and seeds like peanuts and macadamia nuts; and green olives.

Truth about Mufa Diet is basically divided into 2 central points which are:

1. Mufa diet works and is therefore not a scam because it helps fight bad cholesterol and reduced them to become good cholesterols that our bodies need. With these foods suggested by the Truths about Mufa Diet, it makes us feel full and less hungry and therefore reduce our risks to certain illnesses like high blood pressure and Parkinson's disease.

2. Truths about Mufa Diet became more popular when the best-seller diet book called Prevention Flat Belly was published and promised to aid in better abdominal muscle and weight loss in an amazingly 32 days only. This is made possible because of the Mufa Diet wherein a person would only eat foods from the Mufa Diet and results will be seen shortly.

5 Foods to Help You Get a Flat Belly

By Kirsten Whittaker

Want to transform your body and get a flat belly? There are foods, five of them in fact, that are chock full of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs, pronounced MOO-fahs) that have long been credited with protecting you from chronic disease.

While these foods have been prized for centuries for their healthy properties, new research shows that these types of foods, can help you lose fat especially around your mid section if part of a sensible diet.

Trimming your middle not only improves your look, and the fit of your clothing; it can also have significant health benefits - reducing risks of heart disease for one. And while we've all seen the subcutaneous fat (outer fat) that makes it hard to get into your jeans, it's the unseen visceral fat deep inside your body around internal organs, that is so dangerous.

Even small amounts of this type of fat can increase your heart disease risk, as well as upping your cholesterol and risk of high blood pressure.

Even if you aren't following a diet, you can substitute one of these good-for-you-foods to what you're eating today to give yourself some health benefits.

Substitute any of these five foods at every meal will help you manage dangerous belly fat... plus cut unnecessary calories so that you are likely to lose both inches and pounds.

There are five categories of monounsaturated fatty acids, or MUFAs:

1) OILS: One tablespoon of canola oil, flaxseed oil, olive oil, peanut oil, pesto sauce, safflower oil, sesame oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil or walnut oil can be used in cooking, as a dressing or addition to a dish, in a marinade or as a salad dressing.

2) NUTS AND SEEDS: Two tablespoons of almonds, almond butter, Brazil nuts, cashew butter, chunky natural peanut butter, dry-roasted cashews, dry-roasted peanuts, dry-roasted sunflower seeds, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, roasted pumpkin seeds, smooth natural peanut butter, sunflower seeds, sunflower seed butter, tahini (sesame seed paste) or walnuts are delicious as snacks, or as additions to a salad, as a topping for meats or to add body to soups and sauces.

3) AVOCADO: One quarter cup Florida or Hass avocadoes can be sliced and served with a salad or entrée, or made into a dip that is delicious with chips.

4) OLIVES: Ten large black or green olives or two tablespoons of tapenade can be served as a snack, sprinkled on pizza, salad or pasta, spread on crackers or sandwiches - even used as stuffing for chicken or fish fillets.

5) CHOCOLATE: One quarter cup of dark chocolate chips, shavings or chunks can be a part of any sweet treat you love. However you must aim for a high percentage of cocoa for the most benefits - try 85%.

To get the best benefit from these foods, just replace one or more of the foods with a less healthy option that is already part of your diet, and it could help you move closer to your dream and get a flat belly over time.

Next just head on over to the Daily Health Bulletin for more health tips on weight loss and how to get a flat belly. Plus get 5 free revealing health reports.

The Best MUFA Foods

An Honest Review of MUFA Flat Belly Diet

By C.Y. Lai

You may have heard about the latest diet called Mufa flat belly diet in Good Morning America. At the time of writing, it's probably the second hottest thing after Paris Hilton's presidential campaign. Prevention magazine's Editor in Chief Liz Vaccariel and Nutrition Editor Cynthia Sass have written a book on this subject (selling at $39.95 per copy). Specifically, they said this diet can help you to reduce the most stubborn fat on your body - the belly fat. There are also other claims including: lose up to 15 lbs in 32 days, trim up to 12 inches of fat, look and feel sexy. Now the question is, does MUFA Flat Belly Diet really work, or it's just another weight loss gimmick?

The concept of MUFA Flat Belly Diet is pretty simple: consume 4 400 calories meal per day, that's about 1600 calories intake daily. Each meal should consist of Mufa foods, and other health foods including whole grains, fruits and vegetables. In case you are wondering, MUFA is actually Monounsaturated Fatty Acids. According to some research, MUFA can help you to lose weight especially in the middle. Foods that contain MUFA include olive oil, sunflower oil, flax oil, avocado, nuts and seeds.

Sorry to disappoint you, but MUFA flat belly diet is hardly a new breakthrough in weight loss. In fact, I suspect that it's design to slim down your bank account instead of belly fat. Here's why:
  1. The diet is unhealthy: MUFA Flat Belly Diet plan is too low in calories. It's not feasible in the long run. In addition, low calories intake will force your body to enter starvation mode which make you difficult to lose weight. In addition, if you manage to lose weight, it should be the direct results of low calories intake. Think about it, if you shift from 2000-3000 calories intake per day to less than 1600 per day, how can you not lose weight? In addition, any low calories diet tends to make you hungry. You need extreme will power to beat those hunger and cravings. What's worse, if you resume your normal meals, you may stop losing weight or gain back the weight!

  2. Lacks flexibility: You have to count calories for each meal and also include at least one MUFA food. How do you think you can manage if you lead a busy life? Of course, there's a solution for those of you who have deep pocket. There's an online Flat Belly Diet program that cost around $15 per month to join.

  3. In the cover of the book, they mentioned you don't need to exercise ("not a single crunch required"). However, there's a chapter in the book that devote to exercise and they said it's "optional". In my opinion, it's an outrageous claim. All health experts and doctors would definitely emphasize incorporating regular exercise into your diet plan.

In a nutshell, MUFA Flat Belly Diet is not recommended.

From Belly Fat to Belly Flat: How Your Hormones Are Adding Inches to Your Waist and Subtracting Years from Your Life -- the Medically Proven Way to Reset Your Metabolism and Reshape Your Body (Paperback)

From Publishers Weekly

Even if dieters have cut out the cheese pizza and ice cream, losing that extra fat around the middle can prove frustrating, especially for those over 30. Author and doctor Randolph (From Hormone Hell to Hormone Well), along with women's health expert James, asserts that much of the blame can be placed on estrogen. A three-pronged approach to reverse the trend, resulting in additional weight loss, involves eating foods to balance one's hormone levels (primarily cruciferous vegetables, citrus and fiber); using a natural, topical progesterone treatment (naturally, he suggests Dr. Randolph's Natural Balance Cream); and taking seven key dietary supplements, including a range of vitamins, a "calcium-magnesium combo" and DHEA. The importance of exercise and physician visits are acknowledged but not discussed ("When You Will Need a Doctor" is essentially two paragraphs about getting one's hormone levels checked). The month's worth of meal plans provided are generally tasty, healthy dishes such as Cauliflower Crab Cakes, Pickled Beets and Grilled Salmon with Dill and Lemon; that said, Randolph's bold assertions and self-promotion give the book an infomercial feel that compromises an otherwise medically sound diet.

The South Beach Diet Quick and Easy Cookbook: 200 Delicious Recipes Ready in 30 Minutes or Less

From Publishers Weekly

The 30-minute time limit for preparing dinner, popular with Rachael Ray and a host of other cookbook authors, has finally been South Beachified. It's just in time for dieters who've grown bored (or impatient) with The South Beach Diet Cookbook and offers easy recipes that help dieters stay on track. The recipes span all courses, including desserts. Most impressive are the entrées and salads, particularly in their ability to riff on familiar dishes: witness Spaghetti with White Clam Sauce, Chicken and Avocado Salad, and South Beach Classic Burger. Even more inventive fare, such as Thai Shrimp Soup with Lime and Cilantro, is still homey. Adding to the book's unthreatening feel is its idiosyncrasies. It favors certain spices (cilantro, black pepper), vegetables (asparagus, zucchini) and meats and fish (chicken and shrimp). The ingredient glossary is surprisingly enticing, and the introductory material explains modern eating habits and makes the South Beach Diet highly sensible. Photos. (Oct.)

South Beach Diet Recipes To Keep You On Track

By Matt Murren

No matter what phase of the South Beach diet you are on, you will need tasty South Beach diet recipes to keep you on the road to weight loss success. The key to success is discipline. The easiest way to be disciplined is to have easy and affordable meals that adhere to the South Beach diet plan. In this article, we will cover recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

South Beach Breakfast Ideas

One of my personal favorites for breakfast are the low carb pancakes. If you have a problem letting the carbs go, these pancakes will fill you up and keep your diet on the right path.

Here’s how you make the Low Carb South Beach pancakes:

· 2 eggs

· 1 cup almond flour (Here’s the secret)

· ¼ cup of water

· 2 tablespoons of oil

· ¼ teaspoon of salt

· 1 T sweetener

Mix them together just like normal pancakes. The one difference you will notice is that they don’t bubble up like most pancakes do. Don’t forget the nonstick pan with light oil.

The South Beach Diet Taste of Summer Cookbook

Whatever phase of the diet you’re on, you’ll find ideas for breezy breakfasts; crisp salads and light summer sandwiches; innovative grilling ideas for meats, poultry, fish, and shellfish; tempting vegetarian entrées; refreshing desserts; and cooling summer drinks. South Beach Diet Lunch Ideas

Lunch is always fun. Most people need something they can pack for the road. The one meal I have found easy to make and quite tasty is the BLT Wrap. Make sure you toss the bread and use the lettuce as the wrap.

BLT Wrap Ingredients:

· 3 slices of bacon, cook until crispy and chop

· 2 tablespoons of mayo (regular Is fine)

· ½ cup of raw chopped up tomatoes

· Black pepper or seasoning

· Green Lettuce

Mix everything up in a bowl with some pepper or other seasoning. I have tried it with cayenne and it wasn’t too bad. Take the mix and spoon it into the lettuce. Wrap it up and you have yourself a tasty BLT without the baggage.

South Beach Diet Dinner Ideas

Where’s the beef. Ok, so you might be starving by now so this recipe is sure to meet your palates needs. This meal is great for grilling as well.

Pepper Beef Tenderloin Ingredients:

· 1 pound of beef tenderloin

· ½ tablespoon of minced garlic

· 2 tablespoons minced shallots

· ½ tablespoon of fresh minced rosemary

· 1 teaspoon of salt

· 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

· 1 teaspoon orange zest

· 2 tablespoons olive oil

· ½ cup pearl onions

The trick to this recipe is to preparing the onions and sauce just right. Bring the water to a boil and boil the onions for a few minutes, then drop them into cold water. Then, take a skillet and heat up the olive oil and throw the shallots in for a couple minutes. Before you throw the beef on the grill, take the olive oil and rub the beef down.

Now take the pepper, salt, rosemary, orange zest, and garlic, mix it together and put the mix on the tenderloin. Now you are ready to throw the meat on the BBQ. Make sure you preheat the BBQ and sear both sides keeping the juices in. Best served medium rare, or to your liking.

Now you have no excuses to now stick to the diet. The above recipes are easy and will keep you satisfied on your journey to losing weight.

Successful Belly Fat Loss In Five Easy Steps

By Paul Majestyck

The battle of the bulge sneaks up on the average dieter; getting rid of it, on the other hand, is a long, drawn out battle that sometimes causes so much frustration that the dieter will simply give up or even consider the more drastic aspects of surgery to get rid of unwanted belly fat. Loss of this fat is not as easy as shedding pounds from other parts of the body, but there are some tips and tricks that will make it possible.

Successful belly fat loss in five easy steps starts with an enjoyable exercise:

1. Sleep! Sure, you know better than believing that you can lose weight while you sleep, but in the extended sense, you can help your body - and your belly - to shed some fat. If you get less than five solid hours of uninterrupted sleep, your body's production of insulin is inhibited and any sugar carbs consumed are not metabolized, and calories are not burned but instead piled on as fat. Ideal are eight hours of sleep for proper functioning.

2. Exercise your abdominal muscles with sit-ups. Nobody likes doing them, but if you do five at a time, and maybe an hour or so later do another five, you will find that at the end of the day you can come up with a sizeable amount of sit-ups! Make it a matter of pride to see how many you can do in a day and then gradually work your way up.

3. Rest your abdominal muscles. It is counterproductive to keep on exercising your abs every single day in the beginning. Take a day between exercises and instead focus on different muscle groups then.

4. Reduce your dinner carb intake. Perhaps not surprisingly, the Atkins diet (and those other ones which also center on a reduced carbohydrate and increased protein intake) works because an overload of carbohydrates will metabolize into fat when eaten prior to sleep. Focus on protein and fiber rich veggies instead for dinner, and you will be rewarded with weight loss - and thus also belly fat loss.

5. Reduce your junk food intake. Yes, this is the time to get out that old food journal again and chart for one week everything you are eating. Don't worry about recording calories, just write down what it is that you are ingesting. Do not forget to also list your soda and other drink intake! At the end of the week, seek out non-essential food items you can cut down; let's say you drink 24 non-diet soft drinks per week - next week, see if you can cut it down to 20. Couple this with a few other little tweaks here and there, and you will have cut down your weekly calorie intake - and thus your belly fat development - considerably. Keep on cutting and trimming, and over the course of the year you will find that a lot of junk is eliminated and a lot of belly fat loss is recorded.

Do not give up when the going gets tough, but stick it out. Before long you will be rewarded with great results!

Guaranteed Fat Loss Workouts

By Paul Majestyck

The battle of the bulge is created by a sedentary lifestyle and the ingestion of high calorie foods and drinks. It takes months or even years to accumulate, and unless you opt for invasive liposuction or another kind of surgery, the only way to undo the weight is through diet modification and exercise. Fortunately, there are some guaranteed fat loss workouts even the most out of shape diet hopeful may employ on the road to a slimmer, trimmer and fitter body.

First and foremost is walking. Everyone knows how to walk and if you have the power of movement, then your legs and feet are your best assets on the road to fat loss. It does not matter if you own an expensive treadmill with an incline or instead visit the gym. As a matter of fact, if you opt for neither, why not put the pooch on the leash and walk around the block. Slowly at first, but over time speeding up and maybe adding a bit of territory, before long you will walk, burn fat, build muscle, and feel better.

If you are up for more of a challenge, then one of the many cross country skiing machines will do the trick. The gliding motion of the legs requires muscle control and with the arms swinging, you are sure to get a whole body workout. This kind of exercise is especially good for the abdominal muscles and fat loss as well as muscle toning is a guaranteed result.

Another guaranteed weight loss workout is weight lifting. Granted, if you do not belong to a gym, it is hard to find some high quality weights, but do not despair! If you own a few heavy books (think Zondervan's NIV Exhaustive Concordance or Encyclopedia Britannica) you can use them to lift them just as you would weights at the gym. In the alternative, carry them with you as you walk. The increased weight requires increased energy, which or course will result in an increase in fat burn. For an even more authentic feel, purchase two bags of cat litter, and you are on your way to fat loss!

No enumeration of guaranteed fat loss workouts would be complete without mentioning the jump rope. Joints permitting, this makes for a great workout that is sure to shed some pounds and increase your stamina. Yet if your joints and ankles are unlikely to cooperate, you will find that a modified exercise of lunges and aerobics will also build stamina and may even condition your joints and ankles to such an extent as to permit future use of the jump rope.

The last fat loss workout takes places on your dining room table and involves the lifting of your knife and fork. Granted, this is not a bona fide muscle building workout, but it sure has the power to burn some fat! As a general rule, diets don't work. What does work is behavior modification. Avoid carbohydrates for dinners and focus instead on veggies and meat. If over the course of a week you eat three bags of chips, cut it down to two. If you drink one glass of water over the course of the week, increase it to three. In other words, exercise your will power to increase the healthy food choices and decrease the not so healthy ones.

Why Are You Waiting To Start A Diet?

By Hamilton Erridge

If you are someone who went for years ignoring your weight gain and not doing anything about it, can you think of a reason why it took you so long to attack the issue? Or, in simpler terms, why did you wait so long to do something about your weight problem?

As insensitive or lacking in understanding as this question may seem, this is actually something that my wife asked me a few years ago.

Of course, what makes it so funny coming from her is that she is someone who has never had a weight problem and cannot even remotely understand what it's like to overeat on a continuous basis or use food to handle stress or cravings.

Now, what she meant by her inquiry is actually very specific. Allow me to explain: From the perspective of someone who doesn't have a weight problem or any eating issues, she treats her own weight as something that needs to be handled from time-to-time.

Meaning, if she puts on a few pounds and feels that her clothes are getting tight, she simply cuts back on her eating.

So, in viewing the world from her perspective, it's literally impossible for her to understand how I could have put on 100 pounds over an extended period of time without ever stopping along the way to do something about it.

The question really has nothing to do with a single event in my life or a call to action, but it's more related to why I didn't stop the insanity along the way. Why did I choose to ignore the problem and allow the weight to build up over time?

And it is this simple question that really allowed me to get to know myself better. It allowed me to come to terms with the understanding that I wasn't necessarily ignoring the problem, but more that I was ignoring the causes.

Meaning, I personally used food to handle stress and to comfort myself. And it wasn't until I was able to get a grasp on these concepts that I even had a chance at losing the weight and keeping it off. In addition, what makes having these issues truly unique is that as an overweight person, we all literally carry our issues with us.

So, when I had reached the point of being 100 pounds overweight, it was my own personal breaking point of knowing that things had become out of control and that I needed to figure out what was going on.

In fact, what was truly funny about the process is that I started losing weight without even having a clue as to what was going on in my life to cause me to be overeating so much.

But, like two worlds that almost immediately collide, the act of dieting and the need to comfort myself had very little room for one another.

So, it was with great pain that I was able to come to terms with my own issues and carry on. However, do not think for a moment that my issues or your issues are so black and white. Meaning, they are often shades of grey, including overeating, comforting ourselves, dealing with unhappiness, and an overall lack or non-existence of exercise.

In fact, this question is often the easiest to answer for those that do have identified problems (stress or comfort eating). However, for those that have not come to terms with their own issues yet or truly put on weight because of bad eating habits or a love of food, this question can be incredibly difficult.

In many ways, whether you have issues or not, the truth is still the same. We all put on weight over an extended period of time, watched it happen in the mirror and did nothing about it.

To an outsider, it can all seem very crazy. But, to those reading this and having lived this experience, it's a very real thing and can also be equally confusing with hindsight.

But in working through this puzzle, it is also one of the biggest steps forward that you can make towards your own understanding of yourself and long-term success.

How Can We Lose Weight - Live It Or Diet?

By CD Mohatta

Why is it as we age, we get heavier? I feel like if I just look at food, I gain weight. I know many people in mid-life have these feelings. We start getting bigger and bigger and before long, we find that we have become plump or even fat. There are some things that we can do about gaining weight but the two main things to remember are basic to losing weight.

Can you think of the two basic things that are needed by anyone trying to lose weight? They are simple things that we always did as youngsters. They were like second nature to children to run around, playing, and eating small amounts of food at every meal. Eat less and move more. Somewhere along the line, as we began to age, we forget to follow that advice. Children always remember it.

All the advice we ever hear to "lose weight" is to go on a diet. But dieting is not the way to really lose weight because we don't want to "die" it; we want to "live" it. If we just learn to eat less food, push ourselves away from the table, stop eating when we are satisfied or measure our portions, we would be really surprised about how much food would be left over after a meal. We just need to quit eating so much!

Before we sit down to eat, or even while we are eating on the run, we need to drink a big glass of water (or bottle of water if you are on the run). Filling our stomachs first, with water which contains no calories, will make it easier to feel full quicker. Once we sit down to eat, we need to remember another important step, which is to eat slowly, so our brain has time to receive the message that our body is getting nourishment. A good way to eat slowly is to put your fork down between bites.

I think all of us are used to having our meals "super-sized". I'm not sure if that is because we think we are getting a better deal or we just actually like to eat, but many people don't even know what a single serving is anymore. I have heard weight loss experts say to skip the second helping and use that food for a smaller meal a few hours later. Plates used to be the size of a dessert plate, which is why the food serving size was more realistic. Our "super sized" mentality now has us eating off plates the size of a serving platter.

The second important part of losing weight is to jump start our metabolism. The best way to do that is to just get moving by doing some kind of exercise. The easiest way to get exercise is to walk. Walking for enjoyment is a fun, easy way to boost your metabolism and you can walk either outside in nature or inside at malls. Another idea is to park away from work or shopping malls so you have to walk. When you walk more, you can really burn off the extra weight. Try taking the steps next time instead of an elevator.

Try to modify your food intake and eat less. Also try to increase your energy level by doing more activities. Have fun doing things that burn calories, like when we were children and soon we will be a smaller size. Remember, it took a lot of time to put the weight on, so don't be impatient and get frustrated if it doesn't come off fast. You will be successful when you learn to "live it" and get healthier by eating less and moving more. And try to make friends with healthy and lean individuals. That will motivate you to lose weight faster.
