Rihanna’s Diet and Weight Loss – how she made a complete transformation

Author: Casey Mcphee

Many celebrities have realized the importance of having a healthy diet and being involved in physical exercises. Having a healthy diet, according to Rihanna is to eliminate carbohydrate from her meal plan. Rihanna is among the celebrities who made a complete transformation. When asked about her weight loss regimen, she was quick to admit on working out and trying to eat healthy.

The type of diet that Rihanna follows is Low-Carbohydrate. It eliminates foods such as bread and pasta. In two separate studies, volunteers who had low-carbohydrate diet reduced more weight than volunteers who had low-fat diet after their 6-month long clinical studies.

Rihanna believes that a low-carbohydrate meal plan is helpful in reducing cravings and losing weight as the quickest rate. It consists of fast and easy low-carbohydrate meals utilizing ordinary foods. People who take delight in healthy low-carbohydrate while losing fats quickly will be compatible with Rihanna’s weight loss diet.

However, prior to the commencement of her meal plan, people are encouraged to know the following points:

1. Reduce sugar content from the diet. Foods and beverages such as soda, sweetened drinks, fruit drinks, cookies, cakes, and candies should be eradicated.

2. To keep the energy level high and to avoid getting hungry, it is recommended that people eat meals and snacks every 4 to 5 hours.

3. Avoid eating processed foods as much as possible.

4. Drink water between meals, preferably two glasses. If flavored waters are chosen, select sugar-free. You can even create your own by adding a lime or orange slice to plain mineral water.

5. Have a daily supplement on vitamins and minerals.

To give an idea on what foods, she eats every day; Rihanna gives a sample menu for one day. For breakfast, she eats egg sandwich with cheese, meat or egg plus orange juice. She also drinks soy protein drink and munches on low-carbohydrates breakfast bar.

At lunchtime, she enjoys having grilled chicken sandwich and garden salad that uses 2 tablespoons of low-fat salad dressing. Her dessert includes frozen and low-calorie lasagna entrée and apple. Rihanna’s Deli sandwich is filled with 4 ounces turkey, roasted beef, or ham. The sandwich itself is whole-grain bread topped with oil and vinegar or mayonnaise. Her vegetables for lunch are lettuce, tomato, and ½-cup three-bean salad.

When dinner comes, 3 ounces of roasted chicken, ½ cup of pasta salad, 1 cup sliced tomatoes graced Rihanna’s dining table. She used balsamic vinegar and drinks 1 cup of skim milk. Another choice is to have a Chinese take-out of 3 ounces chicken breast combined with 1 cup of stir-fry vegetables and ½-cup rice and 1-cup skim milk.

Diet alone is not very effective in weight loss. Exercise must be used in conjunction with a healthy diet. Weight training and cardio workout are the perfect combination to boost the metabolism.

10 Weightloss Tips That Won't Leave You Hungry

There is a great deal of conflicting information around regarding weightloss which makes this a difficult project to tackle

In the United States alone more than $30 billion is spent every year on diet programs and related products. Vast numbers of publications, so called experts, and even medical doctors all promote one diet scheme or another. The net result is that most people simply don't know who or what they should believe.

Attaining a reasonable weight level is most important because excess weight is known to be a risk factor in diabetes, hypertension, heart problems and arthritis. It is however very important to understand that whatever your reasons for losing weight might be - looking good, athletic and sports performance, or family pressure - that you really must be careful not to take off too much weight.

If you lose too much weight this could cause health problems, due to excessive weight loss, and can increrase the risk of early death also.

There are a number of safe, very effective, medically approved weight loss techniques.

1.Keep a count of and reduce the calories which you consume and increase the amount of your daily exercise.

2.Raw fruits of all kinds as well as nuts and vegetables(cooked or raw) are low in total calories and very high in essential nutrients.

3. You must be certain to stay away from high calorie foods which you already know are bad for you. A good example would be sodas, sugary desserts and ice cream.

4.You must not drastically cut calories immediately. Your body will have difficulty with the sudden drop. Reduce your high calorie foods gradually and this will avoid unwelcome metabolic surprises.

5.It is not a good idea to eat a big meal just before sleeping either in the daytime or at night. Your body does not burn up calories while you are sleeping. They will be stored as fat.

6.Drink plenty of water and be sure to get outside for sunshine and fresh air. Get as much as possible of your nutrients from raw fruit sources or veggie based smoothies and salads.

7.It is generally agreed by most nutritionists that the only sure weightloss method is to cut calorie intake and increase calorie expenditure. Put very simply, you need to get more exercise and to eat less food.

8. Replace fat loaded sauces and salad toppings with lime or lemon juice, salsa, soy sauce, or spices.

9.Eating several smaller meals during the day,to avoid hunger,is an excellent idea. You can eat 5 or 6 small meals instead of 3 larger ones.

10. You must cut out, or reduce as far as possible, simple carbs and eat complex carbohydrates such as wild rice, beans and all kinds of nuts.

There are some excellent new scientifically proven diet plans available now which incorporate these principles. You can eat the foods you like by selecting your own menu and you can lose as much as 9 lbs every 11 days. After which you can come off the diet for several days then go back to it to lose another 9 lbs,as many times as you want to,until you attain your target weight.

Would you like to get all the info about a diet which will never leave you hungry? Would you like to lose 9lbs in only11 days on this excellent new plan? What Is Hoodia?

By Eric James

What is the Hoodia Diet?

So you are looking into trying a new trendy diet? I mean there are tons of them out there to chose from, right? There aren't many that haven't been tried. Well this one you may not have even heard of. How does cactus sound for a diet? This new product called Hoodia is appetite suppressant.

They say that it is not the tastiest of choices. It looks like a cucumber and grows in dry heat. They also say that it can take as much as five to seven years before it can truly develop. This plant actually grows in Africa in the Kalahari desert. Also it grows in Botswana, Namibia and Angola.

In ancient days they would peel the plant and eat it to curb your appetite. There are about twenty different kinds of Hoodia Gordonii plants. Significantly enough there is a small molecule that actually makes this seemingly legit. With all of the diets going on, who knows? You always must be skeptical when trying these diets. They are always so wishy washy and are good about making you feel like you are really going to lose the weight.

It is found in a diet pill called Trimspa and can come in the form of a capsule, powder, liquid and even tea. Pfizer bought it in 1998 for 21 million. If you are willing to give it a go, you may or may not get results that you want.

Weigh all of the pro's and con's about it. How much does it cost? Are there others who have tried it and gained results by it? Look for testimonies and the results of others. You have a right to be skeptical. There is a lot of hoopla going on about these diets and you could very well be wasting not only your time but your money as well.

Sometimes going natural is the best thing to do. Do you want to suppress hunger? There are all sorts of pills and potions out there that will suppress your hunger. That should give you something to ponder. I mean they say don't knock it until you try it. I say be skeptical. It's your health and your money!

This is not to say that Hoodia will not work. Far from that, many people around the world have used Hoodia to help appetite suppression and lost weight. The key to all this however is to realise that a good exercise and diet plan in also a big part of the puzzle. Most people hate calorie counting as it can get very cumbersome and as a result give in to their hunger.

If you decide to take Hoodia, you should consult your doctor, just like if you started any other medication. There are no studies to show that Hoodia has side effects but you can never take too many precautions. It is also important to point out that pregnant women should not take Hoodia. Be sure to check out more articles about hoodia on the website listed below.

Diet For Fast Weight Loss - How Cheating Can Give You Fast Weight Loss

By Dr. Becky Gillaspy

A diet for fast weight loss used to mean starving yourself and seeing how long you could take it but not anymore! New research into the way your hormones handle fat loss as well as real life weight loss success stories are showing that the best way to lose weight rapidly is to cheat on a regular basis!

Since we all know that weight is gained due to eating too many calories then it seems logical that reducing your calorie intake will cause your body to lose weight and this is true...up to a point. However, if you restrict your calorie intake too severely your body will actually slow and practically stop fat loss. You can be eating 500 calories fewer than your body needs each day and not lose one ounce of fat.

Here's what happens?

Your body has hormones that act as watchmen. One hormone in particular called leptin takes on the responsibility of watching for drops in the amount of food your body takes in. When it notices that your food intake has dropped it sends a signal to the brain which sets off an alarm warning that something is wrong and you are not eating enough.

Now leptin thinks it is doing the right thing because it's main concern is keeping you alive and not allowing you to starve to death. Leptin can not tell that you are voluntarily restricting your calories so it sets off the alarm. Once this alarm signal is detected your body goes into protective mode, it slams down your metabolism so you no longer lose your stored energy reserves, i.e. fat. And if that isn't bad enough it also increases your cravings hoping to force you to eat more!

Can you see now why a traditional diet for fast weight loss doesn't work?

There is a better solution and that is to outsmart your body by cheating. By strategically scheduling a "Cheat Day" every week into your diet plan you convince your body that it is not starving and your body responses by opening up your fat burning metabolism and quieting your cravings.

This is a dieting strategy whose time has come, it makes sense and it is backed by research. So if your goal is to diet for fast weight loss then I advice you to place a "Cheat Day" in your dieting week. If you would like to learn how to do this and create an effective weight loss plan for yourself, I highly recommend the work of Joel Marion and his program Cheat Your Way Thin. He has been teaching this method for years and has the success stories along with before and after photos to prove his approach works.

If you are interested in learning how a Cheat Day can speed up your weight loss, then check out Cheat Your Way Thin here you will find before and after pictures and links to the official site where you can learn about the eating strategies talked about in this article.

Weight Loss Programs - Which One Will Work For You?

By Scott M. Thompson

How many diet programs have you tried? Why did you stop using them? Did you lose any weight and keep it off? These are the questions you need to ask yourself. If you are like me, you have tried multiple diets, you stopped because it wasn't convenient, the food didn't taste good, there wasn't enough support with the program, and it got monotonous eating the same foods over and over. The weight you did lose with the program was back on in 2 months.

If all these answers are like your answers, you are not alone. I have been there too. I've tried pills, shakes, counting calories, pre-packaged diet meals, and exercising. Below are the three popular programs I have tried with my opinion of each.

1. Medifast

I was looking through a magazine and seen an advertisement for Medifast. The ad was put together well and the food, or so called food, looked really appetizing. The program was called the 5 and 1 plan. This plan allows you to eat 5 of their meals and 1 of your own called a lean and green meal. The plan sounded good so I ordered it. I was surprised when I received my order. All the food was in envelopes, except for the dessert bars. The soups were just a flavored powder it seemed like, and the shakes were just mixed with water, it had the consistency of skim milk.

If all you are after are results, then I can say that Medifast works fine until you get tired of basically a liquid diet. I found myself to the point when I got to eat my lean and green meal, I overate just for the pleasure of chewing on something.

My recommendation: If you just have 10 pounds to lose in two weeks this program will be fine. To sustain this program for any longer would drive you nuts.

2. Nutrisystem

Nutrisystem is a popular program I did enjoy the first couple of weeks. I got to chew on something, I didn't have to mix anything, all my meals were pre-packaged, and the chocolate desserts were excellent. The only downfall I had was the taste of the food. The pastas all tasted the same weather it was meatloaf or stroganhoff. I was eating different foods, but they all had the same taste. The chicken breast and the hamburgers, which I ordered the most of, were just disgusting.

My favorite Nutrisystem meal was probably the scrambled eggs. I would mix in some ham or mushrooms and make it into an omelet. When the scrambled eggs were cooked in a microwave though, they weren't as good.

My recommendation: Nutrisystem is not a bad program to stick with, but it does get a little monotonous. Just make sure you order the foods you like instead of letting Nutrisystem select for you.

3. Bistro M.D.

Bistro M.D. is by far my favorite program so far. The meals take a little more time to prepare because they are cooked by chefs and then frozen. The taste and quality are well worth it. I couldn't believe the portion size. After coming off of other diet plans I wasn't expecting to be able to eat that much food. Bistro M.D. is one program that I haven't gotten tired of because they change their menus every week. It is like eating out at a restaurant every day. I have been with Bistro M.D. now for almost two months and the results are amazing.

I feel that Bistro M.D. is the perfect diet solution for people who need to lose weight and keep it off. The system addresses all my issues I had with other diets such as convenience, taste, support, and variety.

My recommendation: You owe it to yourself to try Bistro M.D. This is what dieting is suppose to be like. If you are struggling to find a quality diet program, try Bistro M.D.

Look Sexy Like the Victoria's Secret Angels - Complete Diet and Workout!

By Melissa Larone

They stare at us from billboards, glossy magazine pages and catalogues. Once a year they strut their sexy slim bodies down a long glittery runway, eyes from all around the world are fixed on them. Whether it be their never ending lean legs or firm toned midsection...there is something about them that just screams perfection. They have angelic soft faces, nothing is out of proportion. Walking dolls. They are the Victoria's Secret Angels.

We may not all be blessed with flawless faces and one in a million genetics. But we all do have the ability to shape and recreate our own bodies. We can decide if we want the petite feminine look of a ballerina, the toned lean look of a fitness model, the ultra skinny size 0 fashion model look or if we want to be lovely and curvaceous.

We have the ability to create the body of our dreams. It's not rocket science, it all comes down to nutrition and exercise. It's quite simple. I'm going to reveal the Victoria's Secret Angel Workout. This is what the likes of Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr, Giselle Bundchen and Adriana Lima follow to get into shape.

Cardio is an important part of their workout. It depends on your own personal genetic makeup. Giselle Bundchen doesn't need to do cardio to stay in shape, she adds yoga and horse riding to her regime, where as Miranda Kerr runs 5km evryday with her trainer.

If you are naturally very thin and want to add some muscle to look more feminine and sculpted like the angels, then you won't need to do cardio. If its in your genetics to hold fat or if you haven't been eating healthily and have some weight to lose. You could start off by adding a 45 minute walk in the morning before you have breakfast. If you want to go hardcore and get the fastest results possible, you can do what Miranda Kerr does and go for a long run every day.

Whatever you decide to do with your cardio is your choice. Here are the exercises that everyone who wants the look of a Victorias Secret Angel must follow.

2 minutes: Light stretching, including Good Mornings and Good Mornings with Knee Bends
1 minute: Jumping Jacks
30 seconds: Platypus Walks
1 minute: Shadowboxing with Crossovers, Uppercuts and Knee Bends
1 minute: Plié Squats with Calf Raises
2 minutes: Reverse Lunges
1 minute: Squat Thrusts
1 minute: Scissors Reverse Crunches
2 minutes: Deluxe
1 minute: Bench Stepups (if possible, combine with Triceps Kickbacks)
1 minute: Pushups

Now for the diet. The models eat small meals 5 times a day. They avoid processed food and usually stick to eating organic fruit and vegetables when possible. Their diet is high in protein so they keep their muscle and only lose fat.

There you have it! Now you have the ability to look as sexy as a Victoria's Secret Model! If you don't have a willingness to work hard, chances are you will just go from one fad diet to the next. It didn't take you a week to gain all the weight you may be trying to lose, so don't expect to lose it in a week.

Fast Weight Loss Review

By Alice Miller

With the modern busy life-styles and the rise in the number of fast foods joints that serve meals full of saturated fats, along with the use of a lot of refined sugar in sodas and other processed low fiber foods have all contributed to the fact that there are more people than ever before who are classified as either overweight or are obese.

But despite the momentum toward weight gain, you can stop it from happening, experts say. And there are plenty of good reasons to avoid excess pounds, reasons that go beyond vanity or social acceptance.

In fact, some health experts contend that the significance of excess weight is more than cosmetic. They say that it takes a huge toll on people's physical health.

Many turn to fast weight loss diet plans. These quick weight loss diet plans are known as fad diets because that is exactly what they are, just a fad In fashion at the time

However, when fashion is over and popularity wanes, people will realize that the diet they have depended on is not reliable at all.

Many of the quick weight loss methods, which have spread like wild fire these days, do not provide lasting results. More often than not, dieting methods, which involve dietary drinks, foods and supplement or pills, do not work. If they do, the results are just temporary.

Programs that promise the greatest reward in the least amount of time and with the least amount of effort tend to get the most immediate attention from overwhelmed people who just want to get the weight off as fast as possible

A lot of people who are into losing weight with a 'Fad Diet' usually drop by the wayside anyway. Many get bored with not being able to enjoy those delicious treats. Or, exercise on a regular basis can become a chore. They tend to slip back to their old eating habits and take the easy route and return to their past sedentary ways

There is no doubt that many people try to lose weight too quickly, with dangerous crash diets. That doesn't mean that there are no legitimate methods available for speeding up your progress on a proper weight loss program that include the correct nutritional requirements for a healthy lifestyle

But unfortunately, there are plenty of weight-loss strategies that are guaranteed to fail. This is because these quick fixes included in certain diet plans are, in reality, not efficient because they do not employ the right principle and the right attitude in losing weight.

It is better to rely on a healthy weight loss option, which will provide lifetime results. You have to set realistic goals and not expect to lose a lot of pounds in a short span of time.

Make sure that the right discipline is practiced to promote consistency on the diet plan that you are following. This will lead eventually to a healthy life-style and a more fruitful living without the extra fat and extra pounds on the side.

The MUFA Diet

By Mary M Jackson

A common complaint among dieters is that you just can't seem to lose weight around your middle despite all your diet and exercise efforts. An expanded waistline is not only a matter of vanity but also a health concern. Excess belly fat can increase your risk for diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

There is a way to eliminate both the belly fat and associated health risks through science. Researchers have discovered that eating a very specific kind of fat is actually one of the best ways to eliminate that belly fat.

The idea of fat to help you lose weight is not a new idea. In 2001, Harvard researchers found that the use of moderate amounts of fat in diets actually helped reduce fat more effectively than low-fat diets. A more recent study conducted by scientists at Reina Sofia University Hospital Cordoba, Spain found that a single type of dietary fat called monounsaturated fats targeted fat loss in a specific area of the body.

Monounsaturated fats (MUFAs for short) come from healthy oils in plants such as olives, nuts, and avocados. MUFAs have been associated with overall weight loss and small amounts of weight and body fat loss without changing calorie intake. More importantly, this dietary fat has been found to help reduce markers for inflammation, prevent and control type 2 diabetes, and reduce the risk of heart disease by lowering "bad" LDL cholesterol levels and boosting the "good" HDL.

The goal is to incorporate MUFAs in a diet plan. This will actually make it easier to stick with the plan because these good fats are both satisfying and filling.

Tips for Losing Belly Fat

Ways to Eat

· Include a MUFA with each meal.
· Be conscientious with calorie goal. Significant weight loss requires control of the amount of calories consumed.
· Do not skip meals
· Eat often. Eat a meal every 4 - 5 hours to control your hunger, stabilize your blood sugar, and to increase your metabolism.

Ways to Think

· Manage stress
· Seek support. Ask for support from a family member or friend or sign up with an online support group.
· Keep a journal or diary about your feelings when you eat and why you eat to identify triggers that may lead to unhealthy eating.

Bon Appetite!

Though it may sound non-sense to you at first, Mufa scientifically stands for monounsaturated fatty acids that we get from foods from plants. Unlike other diets ever made, Mufa Diet is one of the few diets ever featured in the famous Good Morning America show because of its positive effect. On the show, they discussed the truth about mufa diet and how it is divided into five classifications which are chocolates like chocolate chips and dark chocolates; avocadoes; oil such as canola oil, olive oil and sunflower oil; nuts and seeds like peanuts and macadamia nuts; and green olives.

Truth about Mufa Diet is basically divided into 2 central points which are:

1. Mufa diet works and is therefore not a scam because it helps fight bad cholesterol and reduced them to become good cholesterols that our bodies need. With these foods suggested by the Truths about Mufa Diet, it makes us feel full and less hungry and therefore reduce our risks to certain illnesses like high blood pressure and Parkinson's disease.

2. Truths about Mufa Diet became more popular when the best-seller diet book called Prevention Flat Belly was published and promised to aid in better abdominal muscle and weight loss in an amazingly 32 days only. This is made possible because of the Mufa Diet wherein a person would only eat foods from the Mufa Diet and results will be seen shortly.

It's just in time for dieters who've grown bored (or impatient) with The South Beach Diet Cookbook and offers easy recipes that help dieters stay on track. The recipes span all courses, including desserts. Most impressive are the entrées and salads, particularly in their ability to riff on familiar dishes: witness Spaghetti with White Clam Sauce, Chicken and Avocado Salad, and South Beach Classic Burger. South Beach Diet Recipes To Keep You On Track

By Matt Murren

No matter what phase of the South Beach diet you are on, you will need tasty South Beach diet recipes to keep you on the road to weight loss success. The key to success is discipline. The easiest way to be disciplined is to have easy and affordable meals that adhere to the South Beach diet plan. In this article, we will cover recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

South Beach Breakfast Ideas

One of my personal favorites for breakfast are the low carb pancakes. If you have a problem letting the carbs go, these pancakes will fill you up and keep your diet on the right path.

Here’s how you make the Low Carb South Beach pancakes:

· 2 eggs

· 1 cup almond flour (Here’s the secret)

· ¼ cup of water

· 2 tablespoons of oil

· ¼ teaspoon of salt

· 1 T sweetener

Mix them together just like normal pancakes. The one difference you will notice is that they don’t bubble up like most pancakes do. Don’t forget the nonstick pan with light oil.

South Beach Diet Lunch Ideas

Lunch is always fun. Most people need something they can pack for the road. The one meal I have found easy to make and quite tasty is the BLT Wrap. Make sure you toss the bread and use the lettuce as the wrap.

BLT Wrap Ingredients:

· 3 slices of bacon, cook until crispy and chop

· 2 tablespoons of mayo (regular Is fine)

· ½ cup of raw chopped up tomatoes

· Black pepper or seasoning

· Green Lettuce

Mix everything up in a bowl with some pepper or other seasoning. I have tried it with cayenne and it wasn’t too bad. Take the mix and spoon it into the lettuce. Wrap it up and you have yourself a tasty BLT without the baggage.

Pepper Beef Tenderloin Ingredients:

· 2 tablespoons minced shallots

· ½ tablespoon of fresh minced rosemary

· 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

The trick to this recipe is to preparing the onions and sauce just right. Bring the water to a boil and boil the onions for a few minutes, then drop them into cold water. Then, take a skillet and heat up the olive oil and throw the shallots in for a couple minutes. Before you throw the beef on the grill, take the olive oil and rub the beef down.

Now take the pepper, salt, rosemary, orange zest, and garlic, mix it together and put the mix on the tenderloin. Now you are ready to throw the meat on the BBQ. Make sure you preheat the BBQ and sear both sides keeping the juices in. Best served medium rare, or to your liking.

The South Beach Diet - Does it Really Work?

By Denise Bergeron

The South Beach Diet is another popular lower-carbohydrate diet. It was created by Dr. Arthur Agatston, a cardiologist from Miami Beach, Florida. He felt like his patients needed a heart-healthy way to lose weight, and so he wrote his diet in the popular book, The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss.

At first glance, the South Beach Diet looks surprisingly like the Atkins Diet. South Beach Dieters are not allowed to eat any carbohydrates for the two-week induction phase. They must only eat proteins for this period. Gradually, after induction is complete, they can reintroduce healthy carbohydrates into their diet, until they have reached a long-term diet that they maintain for a lifetime.

How is this different from the Atkins Diet? In the Atkins Diet, all fats are considered fine. The South Beach Diet bans unhealthy fats from its program. Also, instead of focusing on the number of grams of carbs consumed, the South Beach Diet focuses on the amount of sugar in the carbs that are consumed. This means that, after induction, more carbs are allowed than are allowed on the Atkins Diet.

On the South Beach Diet, you are allowed to eat when you are hungry. You are actually encouraged to eat small snacks throughout the day. You are supposed to eat until you are satisfied, and then stop. However, you will not able to eat foods that are rich in sugars, including corn and potatoes, which are not normally considered "banned" diet foods.

The first two weeks are the most difficult on this diet. Most people, especially Americans, are addicted to carbs. The induction phase removes all carbs from the diet, sending the body into a form of detox as it gets used to life without carbs. After surviving induction, the carb cravings are curbed, and most dieters are able to follow a healthy diet plan for the long term.

So does the diet work? Yes, it does, and because it focuses on healthy foods, it is a great diet to keep for the long term. You are allowed to eat all of the food groups on the South Beach Diet. You are simply taught how to do it in a healthy manner. Make sure you are willing to stay with the diet for the long term, however, as you will lose the benefits if you resume your normal eating habits.

The South Beach Diet Supercharged: Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life

Book Description

Five years ago, with the publication of The South Beach Diet, renowned Miami cardiologist Dr. Arthur Agatston set out to change the way America eats. Now he has an even more ambitious goal: to change the way America lives by helping Americans become fitter as well as thinner and healthier…for life. In the all-new The South Beach Diet Supercharged, Dr. Agatston shows you how to rev up your metabolism and lose weight faster while following the proven healthy eating principles of the original diet: choose good carbs, good fats, lean protein, and low-fat dairy. Collaborating with Dr. Joseph Signorile, a professor of exercise physiology at the University of Miami, Dr. Agatston presents a cutting-edge, three-phase workout that perfectly complements the three phases of the diet itself. Based on the latest exercise science, this ease-into-it fitness program combines low- and high-intensity interval exercise (with a focus on walking) and functional core body-toning exercises. The result: you'll look fitter and you'll burn more fat and calories all day--even at rest. Also included is the latest nutritional research on how specific foods high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and a host of phytonutrients help keep you healthy; new and expanded lists of Foods to Enjoy; taste-tempting Meal Plans for phases 1 and 2; and dozens of easy-to-prepare new recipes, including Eggs Frijoles, Chock-Full-of-Veggies Chili, Roasted Tomato Soup, Homestyle Turkey Meatloaf, and South Beach Diet Tiramisu. In every chapter you'll find inspiring success stories from real-life South Beach dieters and plenty of effective weight loss tips. And as an added bonus, Dr. Agatston answers the questions you've most often asked him about the diet since the original book was published.

The South Beach Diet Supercharged: Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life

The South Beach Diet Cookbook

From Publishers Weekly

Cardiologist Agatston (The South Beach Diet) follows up his blockbuster book on weight-loss with this volume of more than 200 recipes, a number of which are culled from the kitchens of chefs in Miami Beach and other cities. Each recipe is designated as Phase 1, 2 or 3 to help readers discern the segment of the diet for which they are appropriate. Carbohydrates are off-limits during Phase 1, but "good carbs" (like whole grains) are gradually reintroduced in Phase 2. Phase 3 segues into a less restrictive but still healthy eating regimen. Among the Phase 1 recipes are the simple Reuben Wrap (which calls for cabbage leaves instead of bread; the author notes readers "will have to have a 'rye' sense of humor for this"), as well as more complex main dishes such as Coconut Chicken and Sage and Rosemary Pork. Phase 2 and 3 eaters will find delicious options such as Sesame Baked Chicken, Crab Royale and Couscous Salad. Noting that a variety of foods and recipes combats the repetition and boredom that are many dieters' downfall, Agatston presents a wide array of choices, with plenty of enticing fish and vegetarian dishes. He also includes breakfasts, snacks and desserts, as well as ideas for home entertaining "South Beach-style" with a focus on fresh veggies, fat-free dips, shrimp and nuts for appetizers, and main dishes of grilled tuna or flank steak. Agatston leaves no stone unturned, even providing shopping lists and recipes for homemade condiments that forgo sugars.

What Weight Loss Diet Plan Is Right For You?

By Peter Hale

When it comes to losing weight the first word people think about is “diet”

Diet to most people means weight loss – people imagine small portions of food and giving up what they most like to enjoy. I imagine most folks think of salads, fruit and vegetables and feeling hungry all of the time.

Luckily there are many diet plans on the market today that simply allow you to change the way you view food whilst allowing you to lose weight at a reasonable rate rather than enduring rapid weight loss which is not suitable to most people’s lifestyles.

Even some the weight loss plans, such as the GI diet, are actually good for you. The foods you are allowed to eat will improve your health whilst maintaining a steady weight loss that you are aiming for.

Being overweight is no fun for anyone and can actually reduce your life expectancy by 10 or more years so it’s important to maintain a healthy body mass index (BMI) as well.

Some diet plans target instant weight loss in “7 days or less” but when choosing to start a diet it’s better to look at your longer term goals – rather than losing weight for a special event it’s probably better than you look at your life style and what you want from yourself and your body.

Certainly people who reduce their weight state that their energy levels improve dramatically and they enjoy their day to day lives even more.

So what weight loss diet plans are available to you to try?

As mentioned, the GI diet combines a healthy eating approach and is based on how your body processes the food you eat. GI diets are followed by diabetics because it’s based on the blood sugar levels that are produced from what you eat. It’s scientifically researched and if you follow the guides for long term weight loss it should be beneficial.

Other diet plans include the Atkins Diet, which although has received bad press is also based on how your body processes food and is structured around food combination. It is suggested that if you combine fats, proteins and carbohydrates correctly you will lose weight naturally. It’s best to avoid the high fat content of this diet as you will raise your cholesterol levels. Additionally by avoiding carbohydrates your body will initially lose water rather than fat and this leads to unwanted side effects such as bad breath.

You should search the internet to see what other diet plans are available and that fit in with your lifestyle. Generally though, if you cut out high fat and high calorie food, eat your 5 fruit and vegetables a day as recommended by most government agencies and combine this with a light exercise programme, your weight should be maintained at a healthy level.

You should always speak to your Doctor before embarking on any weight loss diets and the above should in no way constitute diet advice. For more information on diet plans please visit www.118diet.co.uk

The South Beach Diet: The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss (The South Beach Diet) (Mass Market Paperback)

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
The verdict is in: those simple carbs we've been living on are killing us. For good health, we've got to get our blood sugar under control and stop the incessant cravings. Or so says Dr. Arthur Agatston, author of The South Beach Diet. The first half of the book details the science behind the diet. Most of the explanations revolve around why things you thought were healthy—-orange juice, wheat toast, carrots—-are actually evil. To avoid blood sugar surges, Agatston created a modified carbohydrate plan, recommending plenty of high-fiber foods, lean proteins, and healthy fats, while cutting bread, rice, pastas, and fruits. Major differences from other diets include a lack of concern over portion size and a serious indifference to exercise. Feeling full while on a diet is a beautiful thing, but it seems odd that a cardiologist buries his exercise recommendations in a solitary sentence.

The last half of the book covers his three-stage plan; daily diets are mixed with recipes, some of which are from South Beach restaurant chefs. The most restrictive period lasts just two weeks, enough time to stabilize your urges and lose a few pounds; stage two adds fruits and a handful of other carbs, while stage three is meant to last the remainder of your life, with occasional lapses for white bread or birthday cake. While the diet is sound, the book could be better organized. The first half mixes scientific study with anecdote in a seemingly random way, while the mix of meal plans and recipes can be confusing. Still, the recipes are varied and tasty, and you'll never feel deprived, unless you currently happen to live by bread alone. --Jill Lightner --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From Publishers Weekly
Despite the glitzy title, this is one of the more appealing diet books among the new "anti-carb" programs. Agatston, a doctor based at Miami Beach's Mt. Sinai Medical Center, found that his patients not only were unable to stay on various popular diets but their cholesterol and blood sugar levels remained dangerously high after trying these plans. The doctor chose to alter his own diet-first avoiding all carbohydrates and fruit and then reintroducing these foods in moderation. Feeling better and losing weight, he then consulted a nutritionist to modify his strategy to devise a sound method for his patients. The South Beach diet begins with a somewhat restrictive two-week program, generally producing a weight loss of from eight to 13 pounds. The initial phase may be difficult for those who crave bread, pasta and fruit. But there are still choices, and snacks (cheese, hummus, vegetables) are a necessary part of the diet. People shouldn't feel hungry on this part of the diet, stresses the author. The second phase offers somewhat more choices, including whole wheat bread and other selected carbohydrates. Agatston advocates combining the "bad" with the "good." For example, take whole wheat bread and dip it into olive oil, rather than using butter. Eat a very small amount of pasta with lots of vegetables, meat and healthy oils. Complete meal plans along with simple recipes comprise roughly half the book. Of course, there's no perfect diet that works for everyone but the enthusiasm of the conversational tone and the inviting manner make the book more appealing than many other diet tomes.

Quick Weight Loss

Quick Weight Loss Diets How Do You Know If They are Working?

I come across individuals all the time that tell me they have followed a Quick Weight Loss diet, but don't know if it worked or not.

What do you mean you don't know if it worked or not?

Did you lose weight? Did your body fat percentage decrease? You have to know if it worked or not.

I then ask them if they took any measurements and body fat calculations at the beginning of the Quick Weight Loss diet.

Usually the answer is no.

So I guess they are really telling the truth about not knowing if they lost any weight or not. Generally they say they got on the scale in the beginning and then weighed themselves at the end.

The scale can give you some answers, but it won't tell you the whole story on whether or not your Quick Weight Loss diet is successful. It can also give you plenty of false numbers along the way that will discourage your efforts.

To be successful at fast weight loss you need to be obviously eating properly, but also strength training. Strength training produces lean body mass which is weight on the scale, but looks great on your body and is key to keeping the fat off once you have lost it.

If I only used the scale as my measuring tool and I lost 10 pounds of fat and gained 5 pounds of lean muscle the scale would tell me that I only lost 5 pounds.

I would think that I failed.

If I took before measurements, pictures and body fat calculations I would know that I lost 8% body fat, 4 inches off my waist and gained 5 pounds of lean body mass.

I now know that my Quick Weight Loss diet was successful. The scale didn't tell me those numbers.

Before you start any exercise or Quick Weight Loss diet program make sure that you not only take before pictures, but you also find out what your body fat percentage is and your circumference measurements.

This way you have all the evaluative tools to tell you if a program is successful or not. It will also tell you if you need to modify that program so that you see better and quicker results.

I advise those looking to follow a Quick Weight Loss diet program to start with all these baseline measurements and re-take them every 2-3 weeks to re-evaluate your progress. This will ensure that you know quickly if you need to modify anything with your exercise or diet program so that you can garner more successful weight loss.

Don't just assume a Quick Weight Loss diet program is going to work. You have to measure the results and make modifications to suit you individually. This is the way to guarantee successful weight loss.

Weight Loss Success - 6 Quick Tips

By Kathryn O'Neill

Want weight loss success? Before you can succeed at weight loss, you have to know the main reason why people fail.

The main reason many people give up on losing weight is because they try quick fad diets instead of making real lifestyle changes. This actually backfires not only because they don't lose weight, but they damage their self-esteem in the process ("Why can't I lose weight? I must be a failure at dieting").

This ultimately leads them to stop trying - when the truth is that almost anybody can lose weight, regardless of past history with diets.

But here's the key: weight loss success is the result of long-lasting lifestyle changes in one's thinking, diet, and exercise - not a quick 2 week fad diet.

To help you kick-start your weight loss, here are some basic dos and don'ts of healthy eating, which will help you become your own weight loss success story.

DO: Focus on eating healthy foods instead of focusing on what you can't have ('junk foods'). It's a basic psychological principle that we are drawn to what we focus on.

Think about what you can incorporate into your diet to make it healthier. This gives you a more positive focus instead of that dreaded diet 'deprivation' mentality.

Food pyramids generally recommend incorporating a lot of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet. These can taste delicious and give you tons of energy after eating them.

Also, take some time and read about the benefits of healthy foods. This will help you to want to eat them and you'll also feel better about yourself when you eat them (because you know how much they're helping your body).

DO: Divide up your daily caloric intake into several small meals. Eating several small meals while you try to lose weight will help you feel satisfied rather than hungry. (Hunger is the enemy of all dieting plans!)

Fresh fruits and/or vegetables make great snacks. Other healthy snacks include whole grain pretzels, low-fat yogurt, peanut butter on whole grain crackers, low fat string cheese, whole grain cereal, and 100-calorie packs.

By doing this you also help to keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day and your insulin levels lower (insulin, among other things, signals your body to store fat).

DO: Exercise. Most weight loss success stories incorporate some sort of exercise into their daily or weekly routine.

Physical activity is good for your body and mind. Try to find exercise you enjoy rather than something you don't like - because if you don't enjoy it, you won't stick with it.

Take a daily walk with a friend. Run a mile each day. Take a bike ride. In general, you should combine strength training exercise with aerobic or heart-pumping exercise. Strength training can include lifting weights or doing some challenging stretches.

Exercise is also a great way to stretch your caloric budget every day as regular exercise helps to build and increase metabolism.

Physical activity won't undo the effects of a poor, high calorie diet. But it can give you that little edge, especially when you know you're going to be eating extra calories that day or for a special occasion.

DON'T: Don't cut "unhealthy" foods completely out of your diet. Cutting unhealthy foods, such as cookies, cake, brownies, and ice cream completely out of your diet will only leave you craving these foods.

In turn, it may lead to overeating these foods once you finally give in to temptation.

Instead, eat unhealthy food in moderation. If you are craving ice cream, for example, eat one 1/2 cup serving. If you are craving a chocolate chip cookie, eat a small to medium sized cookie.

Eating unhealthy food in moderation won't ruin your diet and can actually help you lose weight faster since you don't feel deprived.

DON'T: Don't avoid fat completely. Having fat in your daily diet is healthy.

In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, fat helps your body in numerous ways including giving you energy, aiding in the production of hormones that help your body clot blood, constrict blood vessels, and regulate heart rate and blood pressure.

Fat also carries vitamins to the blood, helps protect your organs, maintains healthy skin and hair, and helps keep your body insulated. It is important however to know what fats are good and bad for you.

Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are good for you. These fats can be found in canola oil, peanut oil, olive oil, fruits, corn oil, fish, nuts, and flaxseed. Cholesterol, saturated fat, and trans fats should be avoided whenever you can.

Foods that contain these types of fats include, but are not limited to, beef, pork, veal, dairy products that contain 2% or whole milk, butter, palm oil, and lard.

According to the American Heart Association, people should limit their daily fat intake to less than 25-30% of all calories consumed.

Additionally, the organization recommends individuals limit their cholesterol intake to 300mg. per day, trans fat intake to 1% of caloric intake, and saturated fat to less than 7% of caloric intake each day.

DON'T: Don't use food to cope with stressful or upsetting situations. This is a big one as many people ruin their diets because they can't stop stress eating.

Invest time into finding healthier ways to deal with uncomfortable feelings. Healthy ways to cope with feelings include writing in a journal, taking a walk, reading a book, talking with a friend, and listening to music.

So there you have some tips for jump-starting your weight loss success plan. Remember that true weight loss success stems from a lifestyle change so incorporate these changes at your own pace.

Do what you can and build new 'thin' habits into your life at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If you're committed and take the steps above, you're well on your way to losing weight and keeping it off for good.

Quick Weight Loss - Not All it's Cracked up to be?

Is Quick Weight Loss a good idea? It all depends what you consider 'quick'. Some people follow what used to be called 'crash' diets, eating next to nothing for a limited period of time in an attempt to lose weight as quickly as possible. This is seldom a good idea, for several reasons. First, super Quick Weight Loss necessitates following such a restrictive diet that the dieter is more than likely to feel deprived - indeed, he or she has an excellent reason for feeling this way!

A diet very low in calories is unlikely to provide adequate nutrition, so it leaves you feeling hungry, deprived and resentful. People have different reactions to this; some rebel, while others are convinced that they don't deserve to eat normally and that they'll never be able to, without gainin weight. In other words, crash diets set the stage for future eating disorders.

Also, very Quick Weight Loss seldom stays off. That's because most people's bodies tend to have two metabolism 'settings', probably left over from those of early humans. When food is plentiful, it is consumed as needed, and the excess is stored in the form of fat. But when food is scarce (like during a restrictive diet) your body is convinced that it's going through a 'famine' time, and metolism slows down to conserve energy.

If you're after Quick Weight Loss, that's the last thing that you want, of course. And after you start to eat normally again, your body might still think that it's in a famine and needs to hold on to every bit of energy it can. In fact, some chronic dieters succeed in permanently slowing down their metabolism to the point where they end up gaining more weight than they ever lost in the first place. That's because lost muscle weight can sometimes be replaced by an equal volume of fat.

The real key to Quick Weight Loss, therefore, is not cutting calories but increasing activity so that you burn more of them more quickly. Consider the fact that ballet dancers can lose up to five pounds in a single performance - now that's Quick Weight Loss! Of course, most of us will never be active enough to lose weight that quickly, but certainly a daily workout, long or short, can help get you on the road to Quick Weight Loss. An exercise program coupled with watching what you eat is absolutely optimal in allowing you to lose weight fast. Don't be tempted by gimmicks or pills, though; at best, they are likely to be waste of money, and at worst, they can be downright dangerous.
